Axé

Hello everyone! Another Carnaval special for you today and in today's post I want to talk about Axe! For those unfamiliar with Axé I'll explain. Axé is a music genre created in 1980 while there were popular manifestations during carnaval mixing different styles such as samba-reggae, frevo, reggae, merengue, forró, samba duro with rhythm from candomble, pop rock and other brasilian styles.

Some of the typical instruments used is the electric guitar, electric bass and the percussion.

The term Axé is used to indicate all african rhythm roots or the style of music from whatever band or artist from Bahia. We now that not all music from Bahia is axe, after all we know there is samba-reggae, represented by afro blocos the most famous is the Olodum, once even used in Michael Jackson's video They Don't Care About Us.

The word axe is a soundation used in candomble, that means positive energy. Which later on in 1987, Agamenon Brito a journalist annexed the english word music to from a profound term to the music bring and internacional breeze to the music.

But that didn't stop anyone, with a big bust from midia axe music rapidly spread it's way throw the country. There even began presentations out of the Carnaval calendar that received the name "Micaretas", gaining power each and every year. Bring some very big names to the stage such as Marcia Freie, Ivete Sangalo, Claudia Leitte, Chiclete com banana and others. Daniela Mercury is named the Queen of Axé.

This style is more common in Bahia, as I said in yesterday's post Salvador is definitely a place to be during Carnaval. And without a doubt Axé will be there, just as you here Samba nearly everywhere you go in Rio you'll hear Axe walking the streets of Salvador. Although I have never gone to Salvador, my mother says it's a place she wants to take me one day. From my friends that have gone, they all have good things to say about it.

Some of the videos I have seen of the Olodum is a go to kind of place if you ever visit. It's like coming to Rio and not going to Copacabana, it would be considered a waste of time not going to see and listen to the beautiful heart and soul put in to the music.

Well that's all I have for today, hope you enjoyed, see ya tomorrow! Thanks for reading, bye!
