RIO 2016

So as you may already know I live in Brasil and this year we are going to receive the Olympics. Yesterday was the opening night and I have to say that if you didn't see it live you missed out. The special effects used in the performances were very precise and just so very well done. I wish I could have been in Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

Now you may be wondering what kind of music played at the opening ceremony of the Olympics? I'm going to share the highlight's of the evening. During the ceremony there were lots of presentations, To beginning the ceremony was a song written by Gilberto Gil and played by Luis Melodia called "Aquele Abraço" which means a big hug to all that come.

The national anthem was sang by Paulinho da Viola in a more classic version and nearly to the end brought a little bit of Samba with a group of strings. They then showed Bis 14 as if it was flying through the city of Rio playing "Samba do Aviao" by Tom Jobim. We were gifted with the song "Garota de Ipanema" while Gisele Buinche walked on the runway.

To represent the slums MC Ludmilla sang "Rap da Felicidade", that then took of to a mashup with Zeca Pagodinha and Marcelo D2 "Deixa a vida me levar" it means let life take me.

To talk about what woman have gone through out the years and empower them MC Soffia at the age of 12 sang aside Karol Conka with a new song "Toquem os Tambores". Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Anitta sang “Sandália de Prata” by Ary Barbosa.

The entrance of the athletes was presented by other artists from Brasil and the USA.

It was a night to remembe! I can't wait to see what they have for the closing ceremony. See you next week, bye!
